Canterbury is home to nearly 100 rest homes. There are rest homes in and around Christchurch, as well as across Timaru, Ashburton and Rangiora.
Canterbury offers a range of residential care options, and a needs assessment will determine the level of care required. Many of the larger rest home operators have a presence in Canterbury, including Bupa, Summerset, Ryman Healthcare and Oceania.
Residential Care Subsidy
You may be eligible for a residential care subsidy, which is offered by the government to help cover rest home costs. Eligibility and the amount of support depends on income and assets, amongst other factors.
